बद्रीनाथ
One of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Badrinath sits at 3,133 meters in the Garhwal Himalayas between the Nar and Narayana mountain ranges along the banks of the Alaknanda River. Adi Shankaracharya established it as a major pilgrimage center in the 9th century. The temple opens in April/May (Akshaya Tritiya) and closes in November (after Diwali) each year. The Tapt Kund (natural hot spring) near the temple is used for bathing before darshan.
