History

The Barbar Temple is an archaeological site in the village of Barbar, Bahrain, considered part of the ancient Dilmun culture. Archaeologists have identified three successive temple phases on the site; the most recent of the three was rediscovered by a Danish archaeological team in 1954. Two additional temples were found there, with the oldest dated to c. 3000 BC. The temple structures were built of limestone blocks believed to have been quarried from Jidda Island. Coordinates recorded for the site are 26.22612 N, 50.484154 E.
