The Fuk Tak Chi Temple, built in 1820 by Cantonese and Hakka immigrants, is one of the oldest temples in Singapore. An 1824 plaque indicates it was already in use as a Tua Pek Kong shrine. It was later converted into a museum, reopening as the Fuk Tak Chi Museum on 19 November 1998, recognized as Singapore's first street museum.
