The Jal Mandir, or Water Temple, is located in Pawapuri, Bihar. It is dedicated to Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara, and marks the site of his cremation. Mahavira attained Nirvana in Pawapuri in 527 BC. The Shwetambara temple was originally built by King Nandivardhan, the elder brother of Mahavira, within a pond filled with red lotus flowers. It is one of the five main temples in Pawapuri and enshrines the 'Charan Paduka' or foot impression of Mahavira.
