Karat Temple is one of the oldest temples in Wayanad district, dedicated to god Shiva. It was formed approximately one thousand years ago and was destroyed by Tipu Sultan in the 18th century. The temple was rebuilt through efforts led by Krishnan Nambeesan and the public of all religions. Shivapooja is performed every first day of the Malayalam month, and the Prathishta Dina festival is celebrated on May 10 and 11 each year.
