The most famous Hindu temple, Kashi Vishwanath stands on the western bank of the Ganga in Varanasi, one of the oldest living cities in the world. The temple has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times. The current structure was built by Ahilyabai Holkar in 1780. The 15.5-meter gold-plated spire uses 820 kg of gold donated by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The Kashi Vishwanath Corridor (inaugurated 2021) has transformed the precinct.
