History
The temple is mentioned in the Matsya Purana as the birthplace of the planet Mars (Mangala). Mythology suggests that the temple originated when a drop of sweat from Lord Shiva fell to earth during a battle with a demon, leading to the manifestation of a Shivlinga.

It is a prominent site for performing Bhat Puja to resolve horoscope doshas and is geographically significant as the Tropic of Cancer passes through this location.
