Rameshwaram is a sacred pilgrimage site for Hindus located in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the four Char Dhams and is home to a Shiva lingam considered one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The island was once connected to the mainland, but was separated by ocean waves. Lord Rama constructed a bridge here to reach Lanka, and remnants of this bridge can still be seen in the sea.
