History
The temple is believed to have been constructed during the Vijayanagara period between 1336 A.D. and 1565 A.D. It follows the Thenkalai tradition of Vaishnavism and stands as a major center for Hindu architecture.

It is one of the most important temples for worshipping Lord Vishnu, who is represented here in a lying-down pose.
