Associated Legends
- Legend: Once, Lord Shiva was performing austerities on Mount Kailash. Parvati created a boy from her sweat and asked him to guard the abode while she went out. When Shiva returned, he tried to stop him but the boy blocked his way. Enraged, Shiva beheaded him with his trident. Realizing the mistake, he sent Ganesha, who had been born in Kashi, to restore the head. Parvati gave life to the boy and named him Vinayaka.
